Building adjacent to Green Acre, Hazler Road, Church Stretton home - background - the plot - plans - the build Background It all started in February 2005 when we decided to investigate the possibility of building a house on our land, at the bottom of the garden. The total plot size was just over half an acre and we thought that there was room for a small dwelling on part of that land. After a visit and site survey by South Shropshire District Council, they advised us that they envisaged that a modest dwelling could be erected on the plot. We employed the services of MCT Architectural Services of Church Stretton to draw up the plans necessary to apply for outline planning permission. These plans were submitted for approval in March 2005. On 12th May 2005 we received the confirmation that our planning application had been approved. We therefore employed Stuart Wright Estate Agents to market the plot of land for sale. The land was under offer within 48 hours of being advertised to a couple from Market Drayton. However in October 2005, after a few weeks of solicitors letters it became apparent that we were being messed about by our potential purchasers. Therefore we put the plot back on the market. By this time South Shropshire District Council had imposed a planning moratorium on new dwellings in South Shropshire. This meant that building plots were like gold dust and within a week we received 3 more offers, all at the asking price. During the last week of October 2005 we decided to accept the first of those 3 as the buyers were sympathetic to what we envisaged being built on the land, and also we struck up an instant friendship with them. PCB Solicitors were employed to carry out the necessary legal works involved in the sale and thus commenced the toing and froing of paperwork between both parties. On 7th March 2006, after a lot of stress and pulling out of hair, we finally completed. The funds were in our account.
As our old garage had been demolished
to make way for the new driveway, we had to design and construct our
new garage which was to be located on the other side of our house.
These works took place during May and June of 2006. |
